About Me

I am a clinical geneticist and a pediatrician with a deep interest in undiagnosed and rare genetic disorders. I provide medical care for children and adults with chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and diagnostic evaluation for patients with symptoms and signs of genetic disorders, when evaluations have not provided a specific diagnosis.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

A research focus of mine is on undiagnosed and rare diseases that are likely to be genetic in origin. The Duke clinical site for the undiagnosed diseases network (UDN) provides comprehensive clinical evaluations and genome sequencing, when indicated, in order to facilitate diagnoses in patients with undiagnosed diseases. Another area of research is to understand the underpinnings of serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia in individuals with chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS). I am an investigator with the NIH funded International Brian and Behavior Consortium for 22q11.2 deletion syndrome with a goal of determining genetic factors that contribute to mental illnesses in these individuals.
