About Me

Helping my patients maintain their athletic identity in the face of injury is the heart of my work as an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. My experiences as a collegiate gymnast, runner, and mom of athletes helps me understand the mental and physical benefits of sports participation and exercise. My goal is to return my patients to the activities that are meaningful to them as safely as possible while minimizing risk of re-injury. I have special interest in treating adolescent knee injuries including ACL tears and patellar instability, elbow injuries, and shoulder instability. I also treat shoulder pain in patients of all ages and commonly perform arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs. Shoulder function is key to many people’s daily living and independence, in addition to athletics. I am thrilled to be a member of the Duke Sports Medicine team and the Wake County community.

Experience

Sports Medicine Team

I am part of a sports medicine team that treats joint sprains and strains, arthritis, fractures, tendonitis, and bursitis. When conservative measures aren’t enough, we offer the full spectrum of orthopaedic procedures, including surgery, to treat foot or ankle pain, knee sprains or tears, shoulder injuries, and elbow injuries. We also offer hip replacement, knee replacement, and shoulder replacement.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

I have extensively studied risk of injuries to throwers' arms in Cooperstown, NY. I am currently studying the effects of acute ACL tears on inflammatory proteins in knees in hopes of advancing treatment options to prevent premature arthritis after injury. I am also studying outcomes of surgical treatment of patellar stabilization procedures, treatment of non-repairable rotator cuff tears with patch grafting, and factors predictive of outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. A major goal for me as a researcher is to benefit patients by improving clinical outcomes with an evidence based approach.
