Referring patients with a potential malignancy to the clinic fast-tracks the patient's pathway to evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
Once a provider submits a referral, the Oncology Access Team reviews it and responds within three days with appropriate next steps. The patient's initial telehealth visit is scheduled, followed by diagnostic tests and an appointment with an oncologist. Timeframe is based on patient acuity, record collection time, and what type of malignancy is suspected.
Telehealth consultations help speed up the diagnostic and treatment process and provide a convenient option for patients. Patients also benefit from reduced emergency room visits, hospital admissions, and unnecessary diagnostic tests.
