Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Although better glycemic control at the time of T2DM diagnosis is associated with a reduced risk in CV complications and death, in higher-risk patients, tight glycemic control has not been associated with a reduction in the risk of macrovascular complications.
