I have always been interested in the voice and how it works. I studied vocal music as part of a double major in undergrad and I know first hand how distressing it can feel when your voice isn't functioning to its full potential. After graduating from college, I spent eight years working in research and business development for large communications firms in Chicago, San Francisco, and Raleigh. After moving to the Triangle, I decided it was time for a change and I went back to school for speech-language pathology. I couldn't be happier with my career and love seeing how working with people with voice disorders can affect real, measurable change in a patient's quality of life. My approach to patient care is to always focus first and foremost on the patient's goal as a means for measuring success and progress. Prior to working as a Duke Health provider, I spent time working with young children with developmental delays. It was in this setting I honed my listening and therapeutic skills while also staying completely present with the child and attending to their most immediate needs. This present-focused approach has continued to inform my care for patients.
