I am a nurse practitioner who is specialized in cardiovascular medicine. I chose to specialize in this field because I know what it is like to be the family member of a heart patient. I am fulfilled by partnering with my patients to help them fully understand and successfully manage their disease, and I enjoy the challenge of diagnosis. In addition to providing direct patient care, I manage and advocate for nurse practitioners and physician assistants in the Advanced Practice Office, mentor novice nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and teach in the Duke University School of Nursing. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and rescue hound dogs, kayaking, and restoring old houses.
My research interests lie in the area of designing and implementing effective interdisciplinary team care and increasing access to medical care for patients. Other interests include the prevention of heart disease and treating high blood pressure and other risk factors for heart disease.
