Duke Health contracts with most major health insurance carriers and transplant networks, including the ones listed below. Before scheduling your appointment, we strongly recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the Duke Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any co-payments, co–insurances, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with Duke, your out of pocket liability may be higher. We will contact you regarding your coverage and patient liability. If you are uninsured, learn more about our financial assistance policy.
John C. Haney, MD
As one of the cardiac surgeons here at Duke, I do a myriad of heart and lung surgeries on adults. I perform an operation called pulmonary endarterectomy for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), which is a disease that causes chronic blood clots of the lung. It’s an uncommon surgery and only done in a handful of centers in the county. I also perform coronary bypass surgery and valve surgeries for people who have diseases in their aortic valve or mitral valve, or who have infective endocarditis, which is an infection of their heart valve. I also perform lung transplant surgeries for a variety of diseases, including cystic fibrosis, COPD, and pulmonary fibrosis. Because our practice has advanced technologies, we can expand our ability to operate on higher risk patients. I have a tremendous amount of empathy for people who are out of breath; it is incredibly motivating and gratifying to help patients breathe again.
